Geotechnical Testing

Solmek have operated an in-house geotechnical testing laboratory for over 15 years which provides a service to our engineering team, as well as to external clients and laboratories.

Since 2012 the laboratory has been accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) for compliance with BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005, the international standard for the management and technical competence of testing and calibration laboratories, for a wide range of tests specified to BS 1377. Most recently, in 2016 the scope of our accreditation was extended to include additional tests. Following this, investments have been made in procuring leading automated triaxial and consolidation equipment from VJTech. Solmek use the leading geotechnical laboratory information management software, KeyLAB, which enables us to offer data in the industry standard AGS data format.

In addition to laboratory based testing we offer a number of in-situ testing services, including Plate Load Bearing, Density Determination, Moisture Conditional Value (MCV) and California Bearing Ratio (CBR).

What is UKAS?

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) is the sole national accreditation body for the United Kingdom. UKAS is recognised by government, to assess against internationally agreed standards, organisations that provide certification, testing, inspection and calibration services.

Why accreditation matters?

UKAS accreditation is the reassurance that the laboratory management and technical procedures are maintained to the highest standards. Accreditation is awarded to a testing laboratory only after demonstrating competence and compliance with the BS EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard. Accreditation is maintained only through annual inspection by a team of industry experienced and professionally qualified experts who observe and examine the management system and laboratory procedures.
